What You Should Know About Acne

The exact cause of acne is still unknown. There are a multitude of different types of acne and for every form of acne there is a different theory, myth, and treatment. Why are some pores affected by acne and others aren’t? It is still a mystery. The problem is that each case of acne is as complex as the individual battling it and a treatment that works on one person’s acne may not work on yours.
Acne obviously has physical effects but the worst thing about acne are the psychological effects, especially in teenagers. Most teens already battle the turmoil of hormones and changes in their body, hence they feel awkward and different. Add acne to the equation results in most of them suffering from lower self esteem, than their peers with clear skin, and consequently they are not involved in as many activities and much more shy.
It shows that acne in adults is on the rise and can also be very difficult to deal with as scarring is often worse in adult acne than in teenage acne. This is caused by the changes that our skin goes through as we mature. Surprisingly adults with acne are less likely than teens to seek treatment for their acne, leaving them to suffer alone.
Whether adult acne or teenage acne, there are two main categories of acne, inflammatory acne or non-inflammatory acne. If you have blackheads or whiteheads, or both, then you have non-inflammatory acne. Inflammatory acne can be a little harder to identify and it is characterized by papules, pustules, and in more serious cases, nodules or cysts.
First you need to determine which category your acne falls into, then you can explore the treatment options to start the healing process. Keep in mind that even if you have tried several different acne treatments to no avail, there is always something else to try for your acne. There are always new acne treatments coming onto the market and the next new acne treatment might be the one that goes directly to work attacking your acne and leaving you with the clear skin you’ve longed for.
